Now With More Crafts

Well, I was wrong.

You'll now find articles and tutorials about various crafts (including but not limited to: knitting, crocheting, jewelry-making, sewing, 1:6 and 1:4 doll handicrafts, and 1:12 miniatures) on this site.

I've decided to merge them from their former home, since I wasn't updating either place nearly enough.  Maybe with just one site to keep track of, I'll be able to add to it more frequently.

Eventually, I hope to have different entry portals stressing the different parts of this site, so a knitter/crocheter need never see the sewing entries and someone interested in 1:12 miniatures won't be bothered with the entries about computer games.  This is a plan for the (far) future, so there'll still be some wading through to get to the content you're most interested in.

If, by some chance, you're interested in every topic posted here, contact me so we can be friends as we clearly have a lot in common.

Unfortunately, comments on the crafting articles were lost during the move.  I apologize to those wonderful people who'd offered their kudos, tips, and experiences.  I hope you'll not be afraid to comment going forward, as this is the permanent home of these articles.

Now With Less Crafts

The plan was to have essays covering writing, games, and crafts on this site, but it hasn't worked out that way.  So, I'm moving the few crafting essays that were here, showcasing projects I've done, to another site (EDIT: link removed 3 Nov 2008, see new entry).

Focusing this blog on writing and reviews should motivate me more to update, since I won't have to worry about the backlog of photos of completed projects awaiting their write-ups.

I hope to get back on a twice-a-week schedule of updates here.  Then I can do the craft updates when I'm in the mood, without dreading having to pull old projects out to measure them and having to slog through blurry photographs.

We'll see if this does the trick.

A Collection of Essays

For more than a year, I've had a bunch of essays on my hard drive and an empty Internet domain. It's time the two came together.

This space will be formatted (likely better than it is now) to hold my short essays on various topics, including games and crafts and writing. Some essays will be reviews, some will be discussions of a certain topic or episode or novel, some will be about design or prose choices. The crafts essays will be illustrated with photographs, many of which have been living in the dark, awaiting this day.

Why are you calling them "essays" instead of "blog entries"? Mostly because by calling them essays, it gets me into a frame of mind where I don't release stream-of-consciousness rants, but instead decide on a topic, write some number of words on it, then re-read and revise, and then release.

Will this always be successful? No, but I'm hoping that my essays get tighter and more cohesive as I go along. I'd like each one to be self-contained, though with useful references to outside, as applicable.

New years are all about new beginnings, so: onwards and upwards (but only twice a week).
